“No Shade”, the romantic drama from British-Nigerian director Clare Anyiam-Osigwe has found a new streaming home thanks to a deal brokered with international distributor Tricoast Worldwide and Californian sales agency The Hudson Sterling Firm.
Inspired by true events during her time as a Harley Street dermatologist, the African Movie Academy award-winning “No Shade” tells the story of a photographer who is in love with her best friend but not with her own body image. Her work-life balance is constantly beset by issues which ultimately get in the way of their relationship. The film, which is written and directed by Clare Anyiam-Osigwe, was first released in UK and U.S cinemas in 2018.
Tubi, which is owned by the broadcaster of this year’s Super Bowl (Fox) has started rolling out the content on its free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) service.
“No Shade” stars Adesuwa Oni as Jade who can currently be seen in the Netflix docu-drama “African Queens: Njinga” (from Executive Producer Jada Pinkett-Smith).
Speaking in the press recently, Tubi’s chief marketing officer Nicole Parlapiano said “We haven’t had a title yet that’s a big water-cooler conversation. But I like to tell people: ‘We don’t have something for everyone. We have everything for someone. If you go into Reddit and Discord, there are whole threads and communities around a certain type of anime, or a specific genre of Detroit Black cinema. We want to serve those subcultures and superfans.”
Originally formed as BUFF Originals in 2018, BUFF Studios is the production arm of the British Urban Film Festival and was launched to oversee its own content having successfully curated and exhibited the productions of other titles it didn’t create or own through the vehicle of the film festival, now in its’ 18th year.
