Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has assured the people of Benue State that his administration will complete all abandoned rural electrification projects while embarking on new ones.
Governor Ortom stated this during a fund raising launch for the classroom and examination hall blocks at Mbamtegh Community Secondary School, Abetse, Mbayion in Gboko local government area of the state.
He said electricity is a vital social amenity which can help people in the various communities of the state to engage in economic activities and be less dependent on government.
He said education will continue to be a priority for his administration as seen in the recent approval for the construction and rehabilitation of 700 primary and 64 secondary schools across the state.
“We believe that the Benue child deserves nothing less than the best in education; this is why we have taken proactive steps to address the challenges of the education sector. The N3.8 billion which we have matched with UBEC’s N3.8 billion has given us N7.6 to invest in only our primary schools and we plan to do more”.
And commended the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN,Mr Sebastine Hon, for his efforts in organising the event for the school, describing him as a blessing to his people.
The Governor thanked Barr. Hon for leading a competent legal team to emerge victorious from the petition the defeated candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Terhemen Tarzoor filed against him beginning with the Elections Petition Tribunal to the Supreme Court.
Also speaking, the Senator representing Benue North-West Senatorial District and leader of APC in the state,Senator George Akume, urged the people of the state to stand behind Governor Ortom to enable him continue with the good work he is already doing, stressing that only a man of Governor Ortom’s discipline who has the capacity to prudently manage resources of the state would have been able to lead the state after the degree of looting that took place under the previous administration.
Earlier, Barr. Sabastine Hon,appealed to the guests to donate generously for the school project, stressing that the gesture would benefit the immediate community and its environs. He thanked Governor Ortom for personally attending the event and requested that other challenges facing the people of Mbamtegh such as roads and electricity, be addressed.
