…Strikes Out Impeachment Moves By Outgoing Lawmakers
It was jubilation as the apex court, today, April 14, 2014 dismissed the petition against Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose.
The petitioners were the All Progressives Congress, APC who questioned Fayose’s eligibility as Governor and asked that the court kick him out. However the turnout of things was in his favour, as the court affirmed his position to govern the state.
On the hand, the Court also quashed the purported impeachment plans of the outgoing majority members of Ekiti State’s House of Representative members. According to the judgment, the Justice Aladejana panel, which led Fayose’s impeachment move, was illegal.
The apex court upheld the earlier decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Ekiti State Governorship Election Tribunal, which had both earlier ruled that the petition challenging Fayose’s victory lacked merit.
