In today’s world, the struggle for women to bounce back to a ‘once upon a time perfect’ body after childbirth is real and I dare say, out of control. One trip into the streets of social media and, bam! You’re grabbing the sexiest outfit in your wardrobe, telling yourself, “Yes I can. If Beyoncé can, I can too!”
The internet went amok when a photo of artist and Mavin Records first lady, Tiwa Savage – looking unlike herself – was released.
Reactions ranged from disbelieve – “it had to be photoshopped” – to confusion – “is she okay?” – Then finally, blood was drawn – “she looks disgusting”. But really Tiwa, what on earth were you thinking?!
Postnatal style can be a bit tricky, so here are tips to help you through.
Give your body time
There are no two ways about it, losing weight takes time and effort. Except you have a plastic surgeons number on speed dial, avoid the faux pressure to get your body back… magically.
Work with your size
Pregnancy mutates the body, sometimes temporarily, other times permanently. Knowing this gets you a step closer to making better style choices. The right size of clothing can make a huge difference.
Skip the Skimpiness
Classy moderation is sexy too. Avoid the ‘minis’ and ‘micro-minis’ until you’re sure you’ve reverted back to your ‘hot bod’.
Highlight the perfection
The aim of fashion is to accentuate your fine points while covering up flaws. You alone knows what to show-off, do so keeping your new weight in mind.
Remember, a postnatal body can’t stop your slay. Werk it gurl!!!
