As the king of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu’s threat to the Igbo community in Lagos continue to generate talking points both on social media and the traditional media, Nigerians call to heart the popular saying that, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”. That popular proverbial saying has characterised the response and reactions of the famous Oba who is in his early 70’s”
By the time you are reading this post, Pride Magazine Nigeria can authoritatively reveal that the All Progressives Congress, (APC) camp is on fire. Ambode, Tinubu, Fashola, and other top APC members are scampering and trying all manners of damage control methods to douse the tension caused by Oba Akiolu’s comment. A highly placed Igbo Chief who spoke to us on the condition of anonymity stated that the Oba’s comment which is rather tyrannical and rattling has thrown the entire APC fold into a state of confusion.
In his statement, the Igbo chief who’s also a staunch APC supporter, said, “It’s a serious challenge both for us in Eze ndi Igbo cabinet and the APC in general. The Oba’s comment came at a time when we are still asking our Igbo brothers to vote Ambode on Saturday.
We have been to Idumota, Alaba International market and other Igbo dominated markets in Lagos to speak to them and convince them (Igbo people) to vote for Ambode in the Saturday Governorship election, and with a comment like this, I doubt if there’s any Igbo man or woman (who is a true son of Igbo land) that would want to vote for Ambode. In all honesty the Oba’s comment has more or less destroyed all our efforts to get ndi Igbo to vote for APC. As far as I know this is now a serious problem”.
The Igbo Chief’s comment came at the heels of the leaked audio sound cloud where Oba Rilwan Akiolu was heard pouring out threats and causes on any Igbo man/woman who votes against Ambode on Saturday’s gubernatorial elections in Lagos. Despite the official press release by the palace in an effort at damage control which was posted earlier on this site, the audio clip gave His Royal Highness away as he was heard loud and clear making those comments.
