Shake it Off by Taylor Swift Premiers on the Billboard Chart at Number One!!!
Taylor Swift dropped this single and like I predicted weeks back, the song is sitting on top of the billboard chart (first time the track is appearing on the chart). Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda which would’ve almost grabbed the number one spot this week had to settle for number two… girl, you don’t wanna eye the top spot when Taylor’s single just dropped.
On a Scale of 0 – 10, this song is now a 10!
One Mic Naija
One Mic Naija is a monthly event that’s been on for quite some time, so I was on the island and decided to pop-up for once at Ember Creek Ikoyi. Gate fee was just a thousand naira ($6), and the acts billed to perform were Simi, Ketch Up, Rubby and Olawale… for a thousand naira all these acts wowed me! Simi was all over the place with her voice and if you thought her studio songs were psyched with tech’ then you need to hear her on stage. Olawale; the Project Fame season 7 winner was so on point, though I ain’t a fan of all these reality show stuff, I’ll be lying if I belittle his talents, that boy is just good! Ruby, aside the fact that this sister is beautiful, her voice is delightful to the ears and Loopy Music’s lucky to have her. Ketch Up is one dude who keeps bringing out the ‘dutty’ in me whenever I hear or watch him sing. He is good.
Now to the funny part, the Open Mic session was fun with one rapper just going all about Abuja; dude was a bad performer but give it to D-Truce who was all over the host, rapper Kel. And before I forget I almost got ripped off at the bar when one of the girls asked me to pay N1000 for a can of Origin… but like I always do, I asked to pay with my card and eventually paid N530 per can.
On a Scale of 0 – 10, this event is a 6.
Movie
Guardians of the Galaxy
St. Vin Diesel, Brad Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Bautista et al.
The little publicized and talked about song has grabbed the number one movie of the year! Grossing over $500 million USD globally this movie has sent all other ‘noised’ hits to the trash bin. ‘November Man’ has debuted and not doing badly, for a yet another retired secret agent movie for that matter starring, Pierce Brosnan (another old school).
And yeah, before I forget, happy married life to the newlyweds, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie… but wait, what have they been doing all these years living and having babies together, experimenting?
On a Scale of 0 – 10, this movie is a 10!
Akan
St. Venita Akpofure, Alexx Ekubo, Imeh Bishop Umoh, et al.
Directed by Desmond Elliot, this movie is a typical Nigerian story… After parents send their kids to the whiteman’s land to learn their ways and possibly make a life for themselves, the same parents want these kids to live like they’ve not been influenced by western culture. Alex Ekubo is back home and introduces his ‘pepperless’ fiancé, Venita Akpofure (Sophie) to his parents only for them to disapprove of their union based on Sophie’s lack of so-called ‘proper African woman traits’ – cooking, washing, greeting, etc. Will he accede to his parents wish or will she take things in her stride, and move on?
On a Scale of 0 – 10, this movie is a traditional 5.
