The leadership of Save Edo Group, a socio-political pressure body clamouring for the emergence of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the next governor of Edo state has harped on the need to accord people of the state the freedom to decide who governs them through the ballot box and a transparent, free ad fair process.
Members of the SEG maintained however that the process of ensuring a credible governorship candidate to occupy the exalted seat must not be one given the people by a godfather.
President of the group, Mr. Abel Isiwe stated this in a statement made available to newsmen yesterday in Benin the state capital.
The position of the body may not be unconnected with the perception in some quarters of alleged subtle moves by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to foist a particular governorship aspirant on the ruling party in the forthcoming governorship election.
Similarly, the group in a communiqué signed by its President Mr. Abel Isiwe and secretary General, Mr. Austin Wilson Idedia yesterday reaffirmed implicit support for aspiration of Pastor Ize-Iyamu as the governor who will take over from Governor Adams Oshiomhole at the end of his eight years in office come November this year.
The members therefore appealed to Edo people to be patient and to keep hope alive, adding that in a short while the antics of APC government shall be no more and a new government which will truly promote the establishment of industries that will employ our teaming youths headed by Pastor Ize-Iyamu shall be established”.
