Cuban Ambassador Mr. Carlos Trejo Sosa has called on the President of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) Mr. Tony Ejinkeonye to aid his country in increasing their trade volume with Nigeria. The Ambassador made this plea when he received a delegation of the Abuja Chamber of commerce and Industry led by the President Mr. Tony Ejinkeonye at the Cuban Embassy, Diplomatic Drive, Abuja.
Mr. Sosa said, “Cuba and Nigeria shares the same cultural outlook and good relationship but there is trade disparity between the two countries.
“Cuba has many economic opportunities which have amplified our economic relations with the Asian and European Continent”.
The Ambassador frowned at the fact that the Cuba-Nigeria trade Volume hovers around $2m which according to him does not represent good economic relationship with the Africa largest economy. “Cuban government foreign economic Policy is geared towards the African market with specific interest in Nigeria.
“There are huge investment opportunities in the Tourism and Agricultural sectors of the Cuban economy.
“Cuba imports 80% of her food and exports mainly pharmaceutical products and health services”.
He further stated that Cuban medical practitioners are best around the world with state-of-the art hospitals domicile in their country.
In his response, Mr. Tony Ejinkeonye stated that since Nigeria and Cuba share the same culture therefore it ought to have better economic ties.
According to Ejinkeonye, “The Chamber has identified Trade Missions and International Trade fairs and Exhibitions as veritable tools for promoting investment and trade relations between Nigeria and the World.
“ACCI will partner with your Embassy to facilitate the participation of the Cuban business community especially the health sector in the forthcoming 11th Abuja International Trade Scheduled for September 22 – October 8, 2016”,
Mr. Tony Ejinkeonye assured the Ambassador. The President guaranteed that the Trade fair would provide the Cuban business community the opportunity to meet their Nigeria potential business partners.
