Super heroes made us do it. When the cape trend hit the runways, we ohh-ed and ahh-ed, and when designers – like painters, creating artistic magic on blank canvas – decked our favourite celebrities in this trend, our covetousness kicked in. We knew, by God, we couldn’t let the trend pass us by, and then, high street brands answered our cry for help and came to our rescue. Unlike certain trends that fizzle out in an instant, the cape trend, like fine wine, gets better with age.
Cape trends for the 2016 stylish journey…
The classic cape dress
When Hollywood actress, Lupita Nyongo, wore a red Ralph Lauren cape dress to the 2014 Golden Globe Awards, we knew the demise of this trend wouldn’t come without a fight. To fathom the magnitude of its influence, take a trip to the imaginary land of Westeros (Game of Thrones enthusiasts please stand up), and seek out Khaleesi… she just couldn’t resist either!
The cape-sleeve
When we think cape, we typically think, excess fabric flowing freely (or in some cases, rigidly) from the shoulders, howbeit, reality star and E! Red carpet host, Giuliana Rancic, slammed that idea into the 2015 ‘leave behind’ box. Sighted at the 2016 Golden Globes, she stunned in a cape-sleeved gown, Just brilliant.
The cape-jacket
Unlike the orthodox cape jacket, Genevieve served pure class in this classic cape-jacket cum dress-suit. We aren’t sure which we love more; the lady wearing the outfit or the actual outfit.
We are certain this trend is for the long haul, and we hope you’ll be taking that journey with us.
