No fewer than 30 people were killed, while 70 other injured when two female suicide bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) at the internally displaced persons camp in Dikwa, the headquarters of Dikwa local government area of Borno State. Chairman Borno State Emergency Management gency, Ahmed Satomi has said.
Satomi, revealed this to newsmen Wednesday said the incident which occurred at the camp established in recently liberated Dikwa at about 6:30am on Tuesday also caused injuries to several persons.
Satomi said two female bomber stormed IDPs camp in Dikwa local goverment area of Borno state at about 6:30 am on Tuesday, blew up themselves in the midst of the crowd of displaced persons, killing over 30 persons and injured 78 others.
Satomi, who spoke to newsmen on phone said: “As I am speaking to you I am at the State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri where those injured in the suicide bomb attack by two female were brought for treatment.”
“It was really sad the injured were brought in today (Wednesday) because of the distance of Dikwa from here?”, the ESMA chairman stated.
He said those killed were buried on Tuesday in the town, as he equally revealed that the military has beefed up security around the town.
Dikwa is 90 kilometers away from Maiduguri, the Borno state Capital, a town which was recently reclaimed from insurgents and has the largest mega camp in the state which has over 70,000 IDPs.
