My Son,
As you are about to start off in your career having just graduated from university, I wish to advice that you do not go about preoccupying yourself with vanities, which the material things of this world really are.
My son, I want you to take time to reflect on a quote from “Eight Steps to Happiness” by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso:
“We know from our own experience that we can never derive pure peace and happiness from material things. In fact, it often seems that the more emphasis we place on material development, the more problems we encounter. Pure happiness can only be attained through developing our mind. Through improving our qualities of love, compassion, and wisdom we can gradually eliminate all our suffering and problems, and eventually attain the everlasting joy of full enlightenment.”
My son, as you journey through life, try to develop your mind, improve your qualities of love, compassion and wisdom in things that are spiritual – “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18.
Love you always.
Dad.
