My dear Son,
As the writer of Desiderata espoused:
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
A good number of men find it difficult to actively articulate their thoughts about how they feel about someone. We should really express openly, and celebrate our love for our fathers, mothers, children, spouses, relatives, friends and associates by way of words and actions. Whatever gratitude and love we have for them is not fully known if we don’t express them in the first place.
Show your love to someone you care for today, tomorrow, and every day. Send loved ones cards. Invite them over for dinner. Give a loved one a hug. Send them flowers. Text to ask about their wellbeing, or you may send an email – whatever the mode of communication. There are so many ways to express your love and show you care for someone.
Share your joy with loved ones. Celebrate the kinship you have together. Be genuine in your thoughts and actions. Take care that you especially, do not feign affection. Neither be critical about love; for in truth, it is truly as perennial as the grass despite all aridity and disenchantment we experience in this world. As St Paul succinctly puts it – But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13).
