The depletion of the ozone layer has been described as the major reason for the incessant fire outbreaksin this dry season,the state Comptroller of Fire service has disclosed.
The National president conference of Directors of fire service ,Okechukwu Victor Gbaruko ,while addressing pressmen in Umuahia ,Abia state capital said there has been over one hundred and eight fire outbreaks in the last one month both in Umuahia and Aba.
His words , “ We have done about one hundred and eight fire outbreaks in Abia state between January till now .The magnitude of the fire is so much .One of the scientific reason is the depletion of the ozone layers .There are a lot of changes in the weather conditions “ he said.
Gbaruko stated that it has not been easy for them ,saying they are facing a lot of challenges “It has not been easy for us ,there are challenges we have to cope with, such as lack of personnel ,lack of diesel etc, but we have been trying to do our best”
He called on the general public to always inform them of any fire out break in their environment “ we are not magicians to know when and where there is fire outbreak ,except someone inform us .We have given our phone numbers on air so that people can reach us in emergencies”.
